This is my quick go to side for any meal that my kids all love! I really doesn’t take any longer than making it out of the box and it’s so much better. You could easily double this recipe and add chicken or bacon (or both!) to make it the main dish.
Start by boiling your penne noodles according to package instructions.
While your pasta is boiling, whisk up your cold milk, four, mustard, garlic salt, dried basil, and pepper in a mixing bowl and set aside.
When you noodles are done cooking, pour them in a strainer and let them hang out in there for a minute. Return you pan to the stove and pour in the milk mixture. Bring it to a simmer while whisking it, until it starts to thicken. It only needs to simmer for a minute or so, but keep whisking it! Turn off the heat and dump in the cheeses. Keep whisking until the cheeses are completely melted into the sauce. Add your cooked noodles back into the pan and stir to coat the noodles. And that’s it! I like to serve it with a little sprinkle of fresh parsley or basil if you have it and some extra Parmesan cheese, but that’s up to you. It’s also delicious with crumbled bacon on top. 🙂
